City of Bardstown – Logo
As the official trailhead of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and host of the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, Bardstown, Kentucky is proud of it's place in distilling history. To emphasize this heritage, I created a logo that would be as appropriate on a bottle of bourbon as it would be on the side of a rickhouse.

The gray and black squares of the brand mark represent disparate communities and the center square represents The Center and the human commonality that unites the communities. Note the plus symbol (+) formed by the intersection of the five squares… a universal symbol of inclusion.

Asked to name and develop a logo for a prospective beer & spirits brand to be produced by the Fermentation Science Program, I found inspiration in the student tradition of rubbing the toe of the campus Daniel Boone statue for good luck. Once I had the name, the bronze and verdigris colors of the statue were a natural choice to visually connect the brand to a cherished tradition.

As an alternative with a more "science-y" bent, I incorporated traditional icons of the chemistry department in both the name and logo... and also in the barware for a proposed brewpub.
